[DSTL] - DOSIMETER BADGE [DSTL] The Defence Science and Technology Laboratory, is a centre of scientific excellence, delivering research and specialist technical services to the UK Ministry of Defence. Hi-Tech have been involved in several projects in association with DSTL. DSTL required a badge enclosure to be worn by military personnel onboard nuclear submarines, to detect and measure the radiation exposure levels of each individual submariner. The badge had to fulfil strict criteria, including: Prevent the ingress of water and debris to standard IP54. Have a tamper proof opening mechanism. Be able to use and retro-fit an existing opening tool. Have the capacity to contain multiple radiation filters. Whilst the functional aspects of the product were paramount, DSTL were keen to establish a distinguished aesthetic for the product. Hi-Tech Design created concepts that gave equal weight to form and function. DSTL made a selection based on the concept work presented by Hi-Tech Design.
